So what kind of gas do motorcycles use? The kind of gas motorcycles should use is ethanol-free higher octane gasoline (no less than a 91 rating). Motorcycles are considered to have high compression engines which is something that requires high octane.

On the factory bike front, high-octane fuel is used in similar ways for slightly different outcomes. Motorcycles differ from cars in terms of their packaging. In the context of our previous question, consider that a high-performance, hi-comp engine that’s very small has some desirable characteristics.

Although the best fuel for your motorcycle is ethanol-free higher octane gasoline, our government is lobbying to push ethanol fuel.

An octane booster is a product sold in most any auto parts store and it does exactly what the name says...boosts the octane in the gasoline. One of the originals and probably the most famous is STP. Bottom line is I would run Premium gas in your bike all the time, just like it should say in your owners manual.

Higher octane does not necessarily mean more power. If a racer’s engine is detonating on 92 octane gasoline, using a higher-octane quality fuel is definitely a plus. If your engine is detonation-free on 92 octane gasoline, the benefit of using a higher octane product is limited to the distillation characteristics discussed earlier.

A good friend who is a motorbike enthusiast suggested we should always put premium/98 octane fuel in the motorbike and where possible, always purchased from BP as it is the best quality. We have had reason this past week to be at the repair shop with the scooter for a fuel pump issue.

All models before this model year should use RON 98 fuel. Honda All Honda motorcycles and mopeds produced for the EU market since 1993 can use ethanol-blended gasoline up to 10% although carburettor-equipped models could experience poor driveability in cold weather conditions.

Any petrol motorcycle or car will almost certainly run on E10, it is just another type of fuel, after all. The concern with E10 is that it can be damaging to an engine’s ancillary systems, fuel lines, pumps, and rubber seals. The problem could be more prevalent in older, classic, and vintage engines.

When either the fuel or air is not mixed in the right proportion, the carburetor engine will not run optimally. The air gets to the carburetor through the air filter while the fuel is passed to the carburetor system from the fuel tank. When you increase your car’s acceleration, the air flow and fuel are increased.

Often premium fuel has a better additive package than 87 octane does. truth be told, 87 octane has decent cleaners in it as well, so as long as your bike is running fine, 87 octane will keep it running fine. if you want to clean the fuel system out, add some Seafoam or something to your 87 octane. it's more effective than buying premium gas for only marginally better detergents.

The primary reason for shutting off the fuel is safety. On a motorcycle the fuel tank is directly above the engine. If fuel were to leak it would drip directly on the hot engine.
